The Great Museums Rally

Third edition of The Great Museums Rally

3º Gran Rally de los Museos

More than 60 vehicles have participated at the third edition of the Great Museums Rally

24 May 2009

A year more, the cars and the classic motorcycles have become the authentic protagonists of the catalan roads. This Sunday 24th of May the third edition of the Great Museums Rally has been celebrated, a concentration of old vehicles organized by the Bassella Motorcycle Museum that was born with the aim of invigorating the territory and spreading the culture of the classic one.

42 cars, 15 motorcycles and more than 120 people have met in Bassella to begin the day: 110 km by secondary roads of them regions of l'Alt Urgell and Solsonès, where the participants have been able to contemplate some of the most spectacular landscapes of the Catalan Pyrenees. After a route by the center of Solsona, the caravan of vehicles has regrouped in the Salt mines of Odèn to continue its passage by the small localities of Cambrils and Peramola, where the rally finalized.

Very popular vehicles like SEAT 600, 850 or 124, some Mini ones, SIMCA or Renault R8 have been most habitual, but some special units have also participated. The prize to the most singular vehicle has granted a Jaguar E of year 1969 and in the case of the oldest car, a tie with a Austin Healey and a Austin MG Morris of 1964 has taken place. The presence of the motorcycles has been something smaller and the prize to oldest has taken to one Montesa Brio 110 of 1959. Finally to emphasize a special prize that one has taken to the leridano Albert Bergés and its funny SEAT 600.

From these lines we want to appreciate the collaboration of the Diputació de Lleida and the company Taurus that contributed with gifts for all the assistants. Also the disinterested aid of all the volunteers of organization and finally, we want to give thanks to all the participants without who this concentration had not been possible. We see ourselves next year in a new edition of the Great Museums Rally!

A GREAT PARTY ON WHEELS
15th October 2006

Last October 15th took place the 1st Museums Great Rally a gathering which joins the Bassella Motorcycle Museum together with the Museu de Joguets i Automats of Verdú. This rally is expected to have a bright future considering that in this first edition a total of 62 participants, between cars and motorbikes, took part.

Bassella Motorcycle Museum was the meeting point. Isidre Esteve, habitual participant at the Dakar Rally, together with his daughter Andrea was in charge to start the rally. The route began in Bassella and finished in Verdú, thus 73 kilometres, crossing different villages: Ponts, Agramunt, where the “Nougat Fair” was taking place, and Tarrega. In Verdu, all the participants had a pleasant time walking through the streets of the village where it also was taking place the second edition of the fair “Verdu, collecting capital” which is an obligatory meeting for all collectors in Spain.

The organizers hope that next year there will be even more participants so the Museums Great Rally becomes a classic in a short time.
