Spanish bikes have been frequently criticised, and many times appropriately, due to their mechanic simplicity if compared to the abundant resources used by more powerful industries such as the German, Italian or, obviusly, the Japanese industry. But there has always been a place where geniuses –who have been sometimes misunderstood or sometimes ignored- could let their imagination run wild.
This monographic exhibition hosted by the Bassella Motorcycle Museum is dedicated to the “Singular Motorbikes”, to all those works that, in one way or the other, were a far cry from the ordinary and usual mass-production development. Firms that manufactured just one model or prototypes that never were in the limelight will be displayed alongside motorbikes that reached mass-production, but have achieved a place in history due to their daringly unusual design. As usual in these cases, these bikes did not achieve the commercial success they truly deserved.
The displayed bikes were mostly unknown by the masses due to scarce advertising. Sometimes, this was provoked by a lack of resources; on other ocasions, due to a lack of interest, or plainly because of being wrong ideas. But the truth is that, taking into account the last 50 years in the history of Spanish motorcycling, we can find a certain number of models that should be trated as "singular".
The Bassella Motorcycle Museum has tried, on this ocasión, to offer a truly attractive selection of original exhibits. Through this exhibition, we want to pay tribute to all the technicians and designers that new how to create a fresh wave in the frequently grey and monotonous world of mass-production motorcycle industry.
