Permanent exhibition in de Bassella Motorcycle Museum

Permanent exhibition

Since the end of 19th century when motorbikes fitted rudimentary frames, wooden wheels, steam boilers,… until the most sophisticated machines from nowadays, technology has done progressed and motorcycle has participated under several roles throughout history. We invite you to stroll around the permanent plant in the Museum to discover the world of two wheels...

From the start to the 20s

First decades in the 20th century helped to gradually improve that vehicle recently born which was only available to certain privileged people. In this area of the Museum you will find the first models of the great American manufacturers Indian, Cleveland or Harley-Davidson, British such as Norton and BSA, French Motobecane or Belgium FN. But one will also find other pioneer manufacturers such as Catalan Lutetia, French Automoto or Italian Ribetti who unfortunately could not carry on manufacturing.

Golden days

By the end of the decade of the 20s, is when motorcycle industry consolidates. In fact 30s and 40s are known as the golden days in motorcycling. It is the time for big motorbikes, built with good quality materials as well as highly robust and great reliability. In this section Ghnome-Rhone, BSA, Rudge, Norton, Terrot, Bianchi, Guzzi or Motosacoche can be admired.

Competition motorbikes

Motorcycle and races have always travelled together practically from the beginning. This is why we have on show an area specifically meant for those units that became legendary thanks to their sporting successes.

Motorcycle Spanish industry

The last section in this permanent plant is focused on Spanish motorcycle history. Starting with first pioneers in the 20s (Simó, Fusté, Lutetia, Salvador), then reviewing multiple names developed after the Spanish Civil War (Soriano, Aster, Motobic, Vespa,…) to finish with relevant manufacturers of the 60s and 70s such as Bultaco, Montesa, Ossa and Derbi.

The three main sponsors of the Museum have their own area in this floor:

Diputació de Lleida
Dynamic area dedicated to the history and motorcycling promotion in Lleida. Nowadays, it covers the history of Lleida rider Emili Alzamora, who won the World Road Races Championship 125cc in 1999.
Montesa–Honda area
Besides several historical models, we can also admire units lent by the company such as a sectioned VFR which shows its internal mechanisms.
RACC
On show, a sidecar Sanglas, the first vehicle ever employed for road assistance.
